Foundation stone laid for the renovation of the old public toilet in the Sector 36 market

Chandigarh 19 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A groundbreaking and foundation-laying ceremony was held for the renovation of the old public toilet at the Booth Market in Sector 36-D. Area Councilor and former Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Singh Bunty attended the event as the chief guest. This development work is the result of the persistent efforts of Councilor Jasbir Singh Bunty including continuous follow-ups with officials and his commitment to the area's development and public amenities—in response to the long-standing demands of the local residents. On this occasion, Councilor Jasbir Singh Bunty announced that the two old public toilets at the Sector 36-D Booth Market would be completely renovated through a phased demolition and reconstruction process. The new toilets will be developed using modern technology and in accordance with the new master plan; they will feature separate facilities for men and women, as well as specially equipped toilets for transgender individuals and persons with disabilities.

He stated that the renovation of both toilets would cost approximately ₹50 lakh. The work will be carried out in a phased manner—completing one toilet before starting the other—to ensure that visitors to the market and local residents do not face any inconvenience regarding toilet facilities. The councilor stated that a large number of people from the city as well as the tri-city area visit the Booth Market. Due to the presence of restaurants and other commercial establishments, there is significant footfall here every day. In this context, the construction of modern and clean public toilets would prove to be a major convenience for local residents and visitors alike. Market representatives stated that there had been long-standing complaints regarding the poor condition of the old toilets and water accumulation during the rainy season. The construction of new toilets will resolve these issues and also enhance the beautification of the market.
On this occasion, Market President Anuj Sehgal, RWA Sector-36B President Paramjit Singh, Ram Singh, and representatives from Ram Book Depot inaugurated the development work by breaking a coconut. Prominent figures from the area were present on this occasion, including Pawan Singla, R.A. Tomar, Sukhvinder Singh 'Sukhi', S.S. Gupta, SDO Dr. Sanjeev Chauhan, JE Saurav Thakur, and SDO Ajay Mallik, along with presidents and representatives of various Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) from Sector 36.
