Reacting to the proposed ‘yatra’ of the BJP against drugs in Punjab, Warring said, it is indeed a fact that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has not only failed to curb the drugs, but has added to the problem. Chandigarh 28 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : While the youth in the country may be increasingly drawn towards Bollywood and Western music, Indian classical music remains the true foundation of Indian classical music. Bollywood glamour remains incomplete and lacklustre without the classical music, says Piyush Bhatt, an acclaimed Indian classical vocalist.
Piyush Bhatt stated that learning classical music requires fierce dedication, a whale of a time, and resilience, when compared to Bollywood and Western musical genres, which were relatively 'lighter' genres, that reflects the greater inclination of Gen-next towards them, adding that students from English-medium schools, in particular, have shown a greater inclination towards Western music. Nevertheless, classical music has firmly maintained its commandingposition for over a decade or so.True musical progress is impossible without the presence of classical genre, Bhatt said exuding optimism.
He explained that during the training, students would be taught songs based on Mishra Ragas (mixed ragas), a method used to introduce them to the nuances of classical music with special emphasis on the Meend technique. Giving sidelights of the free vocal music classes being held at Kalagram, Sector-13, Chandigarh, programme officer Rajesh Bakshi said the aim of holding free classical music was to connect the youth with Indian classical music. An initiative of the North Zone Cultural Centre (Patiala), under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, those interested have given a big hand to it.
He said the first batch will start on September1, (From 4 to 6 pm), adding that students, aged 8 years and above, would be eligible to attend classes under the tutelage of Piyush Bhatt. According to the organizers, seats are limited. Those Interested may contact +91 98722 24242 to register.
