One-Day Delay Saved Lives: A Close Brush with Death During Kailash Yatra
Chandigarh 31 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : For Sector 19 resident and Chartered Accountant Rachit Goyal, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra became an experience he says he will never forget. Travelling with around 20 friends to the sacred abode of Lord Shiva, the group encountered a situation that ultimately changed the entire meaning of their pilgrimage. During the journey, one of their companions suddenly fell ill. He developed breathing difficulties at the high altitude and was unable to continue. Considering his condition, the group decided to postpone their climb towards Mount Kailash by one day.
They later learnt that a major incident had taken place in Nepal on the very day they had delayed their climb. According to Goyal, had the group proceeded according to the original schedule, the situation could have been extremely serious. Goyal recalls that 12 members of their group were climbing towards Mount Kailash around the time the incident occurred, while he and the ailing companion were a day behind because of his breathing difficulties. The companion was even unable to walk properly.
Goyal believes the delay was more than a coincidence. He considers it the grace of Lord Shiva that his friend’s health deteriorated at that precise moment, forcing them to stop for a day. He said, “That one-day delay saved us from coming face-to-face with death. Even today, whenever I remember the journey, I feel that Bholenath himself protected us from the crisis.” Returning home after the incident was also difficult. The group had to change its immigration centre and eventually travel by road all the way to Lucknow before continuing their journey back.
