Chandigarh 28 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The footpath and cycle track along the road from Hello Majra Light Point towards the Ambala–Chandigarh Highway are currently covered with excessive overgrown grass, bushes and wild vegetation. The lack of regular cleaning and maintenance is causing inconvenience to pedestrians and cyclists and is also affecting the cleanliness and beauty of Chandigarh. Social Worker Arvind Singh has urged the concerned departments to take immediate action and get the entire stretch properly cleaned and the overgrown grass and bushes removed.
He said that the present condition is particularly dangerous during the night. If a person meets with an accident and falls near the roadside or footpath, the dense bushes and vegetation could make it difficult for anyone to notice or locate the person in time. Similarly, if an intoxicated person lies down near the roadside, he may remain hidden in the overgrown vegetation, creating a serious safety concern. Arvind Singh said that this is an important route and one of the prominent entry points towards Chandigarh. Such poor maintenance not only creates a risk to public safety, but also damages the clean and beautiful image of Chandigarh. He appealed to the Municipal Corporation and concerned administrative departments to immediately undertake grass cutting, removal of wild bushes and complete cleaning of the footpath, cycle track and roadside area. He further requested that regular maintenance and monitoring be ensured so that such conditions do not recur.
He said, “Chandigarh is known across the country for its cleanliness, greenery and well-planned infrastructure. However, seeing such jungle-like conditions along an important road is a matter of serious concern. Such a situation has rarely been seen in Chandigarh. The authorities should take immediate action in the larger public interest and ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.” Immediate action has been requested in the public interest.
