Royal Teej Mela Showcases the Richness of Punjabi Heritage and Culture
Celebration filled with Teej festivities, Giddha-Bhangra, traditional attire and vibrant cultural performances
S.A.S.Nagar 9 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The ‘Royal Teej Mela’, dedicated to Punjabi culture, heritage and traditional customs, was organised with great enthusiasm and festive spirit. Women participated in large numbers and showcased their talent through various cultural programmes and entertaining competitions.
Several prominent personalities, including Balbir Sidhu, Jatinder Sidhu, actress Satwant Kaur, Daljit Kaur, Parminder Kaur and Director Khushboo Sharma, attended the event. Punjabi folk singer Sukhwinder Kaur, popularly known as Sukhi Brar, also made a special appearance at the mela. She encouraged all the women attending the event to preserve Punjabi culture, heritage and traditional customs. She emphasised that such cultural celebrations play an important role in keeping our roots alive and passing the rich Punjabi heritage on to the younger generation.
The guests appreciated the initiative and said that such events play an important role in preserving and promoting Punjabi culture and heritage. The mela featured a variety of cultural and entertaining competitions, including Giddha, Bhangra, Punjabi traditional attire, a fashion show and a quiz competition. The Punjabi heritage quiz tested participants’ knowledge of Punjabi history, culture and traditions.
Traditional Punjabi outfits and the vibrant colours of Teej remained among the major attractions of the event. Women and children enthusiastically participated in various competitions. Folk songs and Punjabi dance performances added to the festive atmosphere, while the audience thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations.
Organisers Parvi and Mansirat Kaur said that the main objective behind organising the ‘Royal Teej Mela’ was to keep the traditional spirit of Teej alive and to connect the younger generation with Punjabi culture and heritage. They said that in the modern era, it is extremely important to preserve our traditions and folk heritage so that future generations remain connected to their roots.
Participants who performed exceptionally well in various competitions were also honoured during the event. Colourful traditional attire, Punjabi folk dances, music and the festive spirit of Teej made the entire celebration memorable. The ‘Royal Teej Mela’ emerged as a beautiful confluence of Punjabi heritage, culture and women’s talent.
