Chandigarh 31 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Sabha expressed gratitude to Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria for lifting the heavy fine imposed on the then President of Bhagwan Valmiki Sabha, Chandigarh, Gurcharan Singh, for the religious boards installed during the Shobha Yatra taken out in 2019 on the occasion of Bhagwan Valmiki's birth anniversary. In this regard, a delegation of Bhagwan Valmiki Sabha headed by Satinder Singh and Davinder Singh met Gulab Chand Kataria and expressed gratitude for resolving this long pending issue. In 2019, religious signs were installed in the city during a procession held to commemorate Lord Valmiki Jayanti. The Municipal Corporation took action in this matter and imposed a fine of approximately ₹6.8 million on Gurcharan Singh.
The case had been pending for several years, and calls for its withdrawal continued. Sabha officials stated that the boards in question were not for commercial promotion, but rather related to religious events and processions. Therefore, the removal of the heavy financial penalty is a major relief for the Valmiki community. The Bhagwan Valmiki Sabha also expressed gratitude to the Chandigarh Administration, Municipal Corporation officials, various political figures in the city, and councillors for their contributions in resolving the matter positively. Devendra (DMC) was particularly noted for his contributions.
The meeting said that the resolution of this issue was possible through collective efforts. Social and political representatives at various levels raised the issue with the administration, leading to the resolution of a long-pending demand. The delegation said that getting relief in this matter related to religious and social sentiments has sent a positive message in the society. Sonia Chaderwal, Birendra Roy, Om Pal Chautala, Sampreeti and Sherry etc. were also present on this occasion.
