All India Kisan Mahasabha's Fifth National Conference a Resounding Success

Dr. Satnam Singh Ajnala Elected President and Comrade Purshotam Sharma General Secretary

Jallandhar 22 September ( PDL ) : The fifth national conference of the ‘All India Kisan Mahasabha’, held at the ‘Baba Jawala Singh Thatthian Hall’ of the ‘Desh Bhagat Yadgar, Jalandhar’, has concluded with resounding success. More than 1,000 delegates from 20 states participated in this conference. The grand convention unanimously elected a 147-member National Council and a 57-member National Executive. Following a brief meeting, the National Council elected prominent farmer activists Dr. Satnam Singh Ajnala and Purshotam Sharma as National President and General Secretary, respectively. Additionally, eight senior farmer leaders have been appointed as special invitees.

Outgoing National President Ruldu Singh Mansa could not attend the conference for its entire duration due to severe illness. During his concluding speech, former General Secretary and sitting Lok Sabha member Comrade Raja Ram Singh called for waging a decisive people's war against the "free trade agreements"—entered into under unequal terms with imperialist exploiters, particularly the USA—by Shri Narendra Modi, the most loyal servant of India's ruling classes to date. Comrade Singh has stated, "The aforementioned agreements are instruments designed to wipe out India's agriculture, small and medium-scale enterprises, and the retail trade—the country's largest sources of employment." Alerting his fellow citizens, he added, "These treaties also pose a serious threat to India's independent existence and sovereignty." Emphasizing the point, they stated that to achieve decisive victories, the farmers' movement must forge a strong alliance with the rest of the country's working class—particularly industrial and unorganized sector workers, as well as rural laborers and farmhands.

To this end, it is essential to spread awareness from door to door against the destructive ideology of divisive forces of all stripes—particularly the RSS-led communal-fascist and Hindutva-Mannuvadi groups. Issuing a warning, they stated that the farmers' movement would never be able to achieve its set goals without intensifying the struggle against neoliberal policies—policies that serve the interests of a handful of the wealthy while impoverishing the vast majority of the country's population. Comrade Singh also came down heavily on the so-called farmers' organizations that were diverting the farmers' movement away from political issues linked to the very existence of the people.

Newly elected President Dr. Satnam Singh Ajnala and General Secretary Parshotam Sharma have assured that, in line with the sentiments expressed during the conference, vigorous efforts will be made to expand and strengthen the organization across the country. They stated that a concrete plan would be devised to increase the participation of women and youth for the betterment of the organization. The new team expressed heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers, organizers, and associates. Amidst thunderous, resounding slogans, the conclusion of the fifth national conference was announced.
