CU Punjab Observes Engineers’ Day 2026, Inspiring Students to Innovate and Lead

Bathinda 15 September ( PDL ) : Central University of Punjab’s Department of Computer Science, Technology and the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and AICTE Idea Lab, under the patronage of Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Acting Vice-Chancellor, celebrated Engineers’ Day 2026 with enthusiasm and intellectual fervour at the University Auditorium. The programme began with the ceremonial watering of plants by Prof. Wusirika, along with Chief Guest Rtn. DP Singh, Human Capital Transformation Leader and C-Suite Advisor, and Guest of Honour Er. Anhad Singh Wasson, Imperial College London, UK. The dignitaries paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and his lasting contributions to engineering and public service, as well as his values of excellence, innovation and integrity.

Chief Guest Rtn. DP Singh, in his keynote address titled “On Being Successful in the AI Era,” spoke about the changing nature of work in the age of AI and highlighted the importance of problem-solving, adaptability and continuous learning. He encouraged students to learn, unlearn and relearn, build on their strengths and focus on execution. He also highlighted the importance of human qualities such as judgement, integrity, ethics, resilience and the Five Cs—Courage, Creativity, Compassion, Communication and Curiosity. Delivering the expert lecture on “What Should You Actually Build?—Turning Engineering Problems into Commercial Opportunities,” Guest of Honour, Er. Anhad Singh Wasson, Imperial College London, encouraged students to identify real-world problems before developing solutions. He stressed the importance of understanding user needs, validating ideas through direct interaction and starting with small, practical solutions. He also urged students to learn from evidence and feedback and focus on creating meaningful value.

In his presidential address, Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Acting Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the important role of engineers in economic development. He spoke about the University's expanding engineering programmes, including B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, and the opportunities for students to pursue postgraduate and doctoral studies. He encouraged students to explore careers in industry, research, higher education, entrepreneurship and start-ups, while pursuing innovation and patent development. Dr. Vijay Sharma, Registrar, CU Punjab, emphasised that engineers transform ideas into reality. He encouraged students to work with passion and purpose, maintain a long-term vision and ensure that sustainability and societal impact remain central to their innovations.

Welcoming the guests and participants, Prof. Satwinder Singh, Head, Department of Computer Science and Technology and Programme Coordinator, highlighted the TechQuest activities organised by the University, including an AI Exhibition, AI Prompting, Cyber Crime Investigation, Treasure Hunt and Gaming Events, which saw participation from more than 300 students. He emphasised the role of technology, innovation and human creativity in addressing contemporary challen8ges. A vibrant folk-song performance added a cultural touch to the programme, followed by the Prize Distribution Ceremony, recognising students for their achievements and participation in various TechQuest activities. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dharamveer Singh Rajpoot, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Technology, who expressed gratitude to the University administration, dignitaries, faculty, staff and students for their support and active participation. The proceedings were moderated by Dr. Anam Sharma. Faculty members and students of the School of CST were also present on the occasion.
