CU Punjab Organises Two-Day Workshop on “Reimagining Hospitality & Tourism Through Technology and Entrepreneurship”

Bathinda 16 September ( PDL ) : The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (DHTM), Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised a two-day Tech Awareness Workshop on “Reimagining Hospitality & Tourism Through Technology and Entrepreneurship” on September 15–16, 2026. The workshop was organised under the patronage of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, with the objective of sensitising students and faculty members to the emerging role of technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and digital transformation in shaping the future of the hospitality and tourism sector. The workshop featured G.S. Mohana Krishna, Founder and CEO of ITProFound Inc., Woodbury, Minnesota, USA, as the invited speaker. He shared his experiences and spoke about the changing nature of the tourism and hospitality industry, particularly the opportunities created by technology and digital transformation.

The inaugural session began with opening remarks by Prof. Anand Thakur, Head, Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, who stressed the importance of giving students exposure to new developments in technology and entrepreneurship. Dr. Ketan Bhatt, Event Convener, introduced the workshop and explained its objectives and key areas of focus. Dr. Satyendr Chaudhari, Assistant Professor, DHTM, introduced the resource person and highlighted the 2000-year-old tradition of tourism and hospitality in India. Sharing his own journey, G.S. Mohana Krishna spoke about how his early experiences gradually shaped his interest in tourism and entrepreneurship. He recalled helping visitors travelling to Tirupati during his school days and later becoming involved in his family’s tour-operation business. These early experiences eventually grew into a professional passion and led him to establish his own business in the United States. His story encouraged students to recognise the value of practical experience, curiosity and a willingness to explore new opportunities.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director Research and Development, congratulated the department for organising the workshop and encouraged faculty members and students to build a strong academic and research culture and contribute to the growth of the University. Prof. Monisha Dhiman, President, Institution’s Innovation Council, encouraged students to develop new skills, think creatively and cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset. She also urged the students to become familiar with emerging technologies that are increasingly being used in the hospitality and tourism industry. Dr. Vijay Sharma, Registrar, CU Punjab, congratulated the department and participants and said that workshops of this kind help students broaden their thinking and develop skills that can support them in their future careers. Prof. Rajkumar Sharma, Finance Officer, said that greater use of technology and innovation could help build a more progressive and technology-driven hospitality and tourism sector and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The two-day workshop provided students with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge and gain insights into the latest innovations and technological developments in the field of hospitality and tourism management. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Amit Tiwari, Associate Professor, DHTM, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, invited speaker, faculty members and students for their participation and support. He reaffirmed department’s commitment to providing students with meaningful learning opportunities.
