JDU Punjab announces alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal Sri Anandpur Sahib party, outlines roadmap for 2027 polls

Sunil Dutta's niece Mamta Dutt joins JDU, Punjab

Chandigarh 22 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Punjab unit of NItish Kumar led Janata Dal (United) announced a series of political and organisational developments at a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club on Tuesday including a formal alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal Sri Anandpur Sahib (SADSAS) party and the joining of  Mamta Dutt, the niece of late actor and politician Sunil Dutt. While briefing the media, JDU Punjab president Sardar Malvinder Singh Benipal, SADSAS President Davinder Singh and General Secretary Gurdarshan Singh said the alliance would work towards bringing together like-minded forces and strengthening a common political platform in Punjab. They said the partnership would focus on raising issues concerning the state and its people while expanding the alliance’s organisational presence across Punjab. The leaders outlined the broad political understanding between the two groups and said the alliance would work together in Punjab. JDU Punjab will, as of now, contest all assembly seats in Punjab, with its main focus and concentration in the Majha, Doaba, Ludhiana, GT Road and Rajpura–Patiala belts. 

Mamta Dutt, who has worked in the corporate sector and has been actively involved in animal welfare for the past decade has joined the JDU Punjab. She is the founder of The Dutt Foundation for Social Welfare and has been working on animal welfare and social welfare initiatives. Present on the occasion, Mamta Dutt said, “I have always believed that meaningful change comes through active participation and service to society. My work in social welfare has taught me the importance of compassion and responsibility, and I hope to carry these values forward through my association with JDU and contribute constructively to public life.” Social activist and advocate Devinder Rajput, who has been actively working in the Patiala region, also joined the party. Rajput had contested the last Punjab Assembly election as an independent candidate. The party also laid out its strategy and organisational roadmap for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. The leadership discussed strengthening the party organisation and expanding its presence at the grassroots level across the state. As part of its organisational programme, the JDU Punjab state team and district-level teams were set to undertake public outreach and election-related activities across Punjab. 

Those who also present on the occasion include JDU, Punjab' General Secretary (Organisation) Sanjeev Kumar, Rahul Ghai, Senior Vice President (JDUP, Youth), Vice President Gurpal Singh Hundal, General Secretary Rajandeep Singh Makkar, Secretary General Inderjit Singh Ahluwalia and Jaspal Singh “Tiger', Secretary Sanjeev Chopra, Didar Singh Sahora from SADSAS and other functionaries.
