S.A.S.Nagar 22 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is fully committed to procuring every single grain of paddy from the state's mandis during the upcoming Kharif season of 2026-27. Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Harchand Singh Barsat shared this information during a meeting held to ensure smooth paddy procurement arrangements for the Kharif procurement season commencing on October 1, 2026. Barsat held a high-level meeting today with district mandi officials at the Punjab Mandi Board's headquarters to review the Board's preparations regarding procurement arrangements.
Presiding over the meeting, Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Harchand Singh Barsat directed officials to ensure that all 1,886 mandis and procurement centers in the state are fully equipped with robust arrangements for the procurement of the paddy crop, so that farmers, commission agents, laborers, and traders do not face any inconvenience. He directed officials to ensure comprehensive arrangements at the *mandis* (market yards), including cleanliness, uninterrupted power supply, drinking water facilities, toilets, and seating. He specifically emphasized ensuring adequate shaded areas and seating arrangements for the laborers working in the *mandis* during the procurement process, so that their comfort and health are safeguarded. The Chairman stated that a control room would be set up at the Mandi Board's headquarters to facilitate farmers during the season, commencing on October 1. To ensure the prompt resolution of issues during the season, the control room can be contacted at telephone numbers 0172-5101649 and 0172-5101704. Instructing the Mandi officials to conduct paddy procurement with utmost dedication, Barsat stated that they should set an example of excellent performance by making robust arrangements at the mandis and procurement centers during the season, ensuring that farmers can sell their produce happily and without any hassle. He instructed headquarters officials and district mandi officers to personally visit the mandis and continuously monitor the situation at the ground level so that any issues could be resolved immediately. On this occasion, Punjab Mandi Board Secretary Kumar Amit (IAS), Joint Secretary Harjit Singh Sandhu (PCS), Chief Engineer Gurinder Singh Cheema, and Chief Engineer Amandeep Singh were present, along with the group of Deputy General Managers and District Mandi Officers.
