Reacting to the proposed ‘yatra’ of the BJP against drugs in Punjab, Warring said, it is indeed a fact that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has not only failed to curb the drugs, but has added to the problem. He said, the AAP has been a complete disaster in curbing the drugs. But, he added, the BJP government at the centre cannot escape the responsibility either. Rotary Visually Impaired Car Rally to Promote Empowerment

Chandigarh 9 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : In a unique initiative combining motorsport, empowerment and inclusion, Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik in association with Tynor Orthotics and in support with The Lawrence School, Sanawar is organising a Visually Impaired Car Rally from Chandigarh to Sanawar on September 12 (Saturday). The rally, being held in tribute to late Hari Singh, the world-renowned Indian rallyist from Chandigarh and an Old Sanawarian. The seeks to celebrate his enduring passion for rallying while providing visually impaired participants an opportunity to demonstrate their confidence, independence and navigational skills. While addressing a press conference at Chandigarh Press Club, Anurag Aggarwal, President and Sham Rawal, Secretary, Rotary Shivalik Chandigarh said, “The rally will be flagged off from Chandigarh Club, Sector 1 at 9 am onwards. Conducted in the TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) format, the rally will feature around 45 participants with each car comprising one visually impaired navigator, one driver and one assistant.”

Present on the occasion, Manjit Kaur, Assistant Governor Zone 8 Rotary International District 3080, said, “The visually impaired navigators will play an active and critical role in the rally, using route instructions to guide their drivers along the designated course. Beyond the competitive aspect, the initiative aims to challenge conventional perceptions about visual impairment and highlight the importance of providing opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate independently in mainstream activities.” The rally will pass through Chandigarh and Panchkula before taking the Kalka-Shimla Highway to reach The Lawrence School, Sanawar. Shiv Kumar Sharma Director Youth Service Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik, said, “This is the first time an interstate car rally is being organised in Chandigarh which is being empowered by visually impaired navigators assisted by their braille route.” 

Also present on the occasion, Kumar Guatam, Senior Housemaster, The Lawrence School, Sanwar, said, “The tribute to Hari Singh holds special significance as he was not only a celebrated name in Indian and international rallying but also an alumnus of The Lawrence School, Sanawar. His association with the school and his contribution to motorsport make Sanawar a fitting destination for the rally.” On reaching Sanawar, the visually impaired navigators will interact with students of The Lawrence School, sharing their personal journeys, achievements and experiences. The interaction will also focus on Braille, assistive technology, accessibility and inclusion. The organisers said the rally would be a celebration of the spirit of rallying and the spirit of human potential, while keeping alive the legacy of late Hari Singh.
