SK Tricity Marathon to Start from Chandigarh Club on September 27; Thousands to Run for Fitness and a ‘Safe Digital India’
Chandigarh 16 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Tricity is all set to run for fitness and digital safety as the SK Tricity Marathon Chandigarh edition will be held on September 27. Organised by Sanskriti Yuva Sanstha and IIEMR – Indian Institute of Event Management, with support from SK Finance, the marathon will feature Olympian and former world No. 1 badminton player Saina Nehwal. Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi will also attend the event as a special guest. Saina Nehwal, who has brought global recognition to Indian badminton, created history by winning the bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympics. She has been ranked World No. 1 in women’s badminton and has won several international titles, including a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships and a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Her presence is expected to add further momentum to the marathon’s fitness message.
The SK Tricity Marathon is being organised not merely as a running event but with the message ‘Run for Safe Digital Bharat’. The initiative aims to create awareness among people across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula about healthy living as well as online scams, digital fraud and cybercrime. Through the marathon, participants will be encouraged to understand that just as regular physical activity is important for maintaining good health, awareness and vigilance are essential for staying safe in the digital world.
Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has given his consent to flag off the marathon. Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi will participate as a special guest. Organiser Mukesh Mishra said the objective of the marathon was to promote fitness while taking the message of digital safety to a wider audience. He said digital fraud was no longer restricted to any particular age group or section of society, making awareness among all sections essential.
The SK Tricity Marathon will feature 3-km, 10-km and 21.097-km categories. Children, youngsters, senior citizens and fitness enthusiasts will be able to participate according to their abilities. According to the organisers, the event is intended to go beyond running and competition and take the shape of a larger public awareness campaign. ‘We Will Run and Create Awareness’ During the marathon, participants and the public will be sensitised about cyber fraud, online scams, digital crimes and safe digital practices.
Deepak Sharma, Executive President of Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha and associated with the event, said cybercrime had emerged as a major challenge in the digital age. He said using a mass-participation platform such as a marathon to promote awareness about digital safety alongside fitness was an important initiative.
The SK Tricity Marathon will begin from Chandigarh Club on September 27. With Saina Nehwal’s participation, Mayor Saurabh Joshi’s presence and thousands of runners expected to take part, the event will carry a collective message of fitness and digital awareness. The organisers have appealed to people from Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and the wider Tricity to participate in large numbers and become part of the campaign.
