Jalalabad/Chandigarh 18 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party who announced their door-to-door campaign earlier today. Speaking at the ‘Punjab Bachao’ rally in Jalalabad, Sukhbir Badal said, “Door-to-door Chittar (sandals) await all the leaders of AAP. Let them start going to villages and see what happens to them when the police is not there to protect them! People of Punjab who are demanding accountability on drugs and the total collapse of law and order will show them stars!’ He further appealed to Punjabis to unite to rid Punjab of the Aam Aadmi Party government and its chief minister Bhagwant Mann who had looted and persecuted them even as he cautioned government employees to take their full dearness allowance benefits and not be taken in by false promises. Addressing a mammoth rally here as part of the party’s Punjab Bachao campaign, the SAD president also promised to create a “New Jalalabad” once the party assumed the government in the State. “Jalalabad has been ignored by both the previous Congress and the present AAP government. Only the SAD can put the constituency back on the rails, he asserted while promising establishment of a medical and veterinary college in the constituency besides ensuring all farmers tilling land along riverine tracts were granted ownership rights of the same. He also announced that “gareeb da gadda” – the motor cycle – would not attract any road tax.

Speaking to an enthusiastic audience, Sukhbir Badal said the situation has become such that the chief minister’s residence had become a den of corruption. “We have witnessed a serial rapist being set free after negotiating a deal with the chief minister’s wife. Punjab is also witnessing home delivery of drugs because the entire leadership of AAP starting from the top is patronizing drug lords”. He also spoke on how law and order had reached its lowest ebb with bomb blasts becoming the order of the day and even an ASI being killed recently. Asserting that Bhagwant Mann thought he could use the divide and rule policy in the forthcoming assembly elections as he had no achievement to his credit, Mr Badal said “this time Bhagwant Mann is propping up Waris Punjab De (WPD) which is actually a Virus for Punjab”. He said WPD was being financed by the chief minister and a Mandi Board official had been entrusted with supplying money to the organization. Urging the people to beware of such machinations, Mr Badal said if such people came to power peace and communal harmony would be destroyed and the State would be pushed back into an era of darkness.

Speaking about how he had given his best to Jalalabad as a legislator, Badal said “you trusted me with your vote and sent me to the Vidhan Sabha. I took it upon myself to make Jalalabad a model constituency. Unfortunately all development work is at a standstill since the last nearly ten years. Your AAP mla (Jagdeep Goldy) has crossed all boundaries of corruption. There is a free for all in the constituency with more than 25 transformers being robbed. In such a situation only the SAD can turn around the fortunes of this constituency. I appeal to you to repose your trust in the SAD again”. The SAD president while outlining his action plan, said once the SAD took over the reins of the State, all farmers bereft of a tube well connection would be given the same immediately. “Underground pipes will be laid to ensure irrigation facilities to all”. He said beneficiaries would be given 50 kg wheat under the ‘aata-daal’ scheme and that the Shagun benefit would be increased to Rs one lakh and old age pension to Rs 3,100 per month.

He also announced that medical and veterinary colleges would be established at the district headquarter and that a Rs 10 lakh interest free loan would be given to youth entrepreneurs besides extending a 75 per cent subsidy for animal husbandry farm projects. “Government jobs will be for Punjabis only”, he asserted while assuring five marla plots to the houseless. Senior leaders who spoke on the occasion included Satinderjit Singh Manta, Nardev Singh Mann, Raj Singh Dibbipura, Ashok Aneja, Prem Valecha and Gurpal Singh Grewal.
