Nihal Singh Wala/Chandigarh 16 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the county may follow G Pay, but in Punjab the Aam Aadmi Party’s ‘Gurpreet - Pay’ was the favourite app for securing clean chits in any case of crime, even as heinous as rape. The SAD president who addressed a massive rally here as part of the party’s ‘Punjab Bachao’ campaign at the Badhni grain market here said, ‘posters of this new kind of ‘G-Pay’ can be seen everywhere. It seems the chief minister’s residence has become a haven of criminals who are being let off in exchange for bribes. The manner in which a serial rapist was set free after negotiating an Rs five crore pay-out to Dr. Gurpreet Kaur is itself proof that the Gurpreet – Pay app is being used with impunity.’

Asserting that Punjabis were waiting for the model code of conduct to be enforced in the State, Sukhbir Badal said, ‘once this is done the chief minister will not be able to enter villages.’ Stating that Bhagwant Mann would reap what he had sown, Badal said, ‘the chief minister promised to use his ‘hara (green) pen’ for the welfare of the people. All it has been used for is to thrash farmers, employees and women. It has not spared even those conducting democratic protests like Mohanjit Singh in Sheron village or Gulzar Singh who only voiced how the open availability of synthetic drugs was destroying an entire generation.’ He also cited how law and order had reached such a nadir that the statue of Babasaheb B R Ambedkar had been desecrated twice but no action had been taken in the matter. 

Asking Bhagwant Mann one thing he had done for Punjab, the SAD leader said “he is consumed by a Badal phobia. He has nothing else to say in his speeches. What people want to know is why are all social welfare benefits like ‘aata-daal, Shagun and old age pension non-functional or severely restricted. Why is the SC scholarship scheme virtually closed? He has no answer on why he has stopped all these initiatives started by the SAD and instead is resorting to pasting his face across the State, never mind the fact that no one wants to see it”. Asking why the chief minister’s mother and wife needed 50 gypsy vehicles to accompany them on their rounds of the State, Badal said “Bhagwant Mann said he would end VIP culture but has increased it tenfold for himself and his family”. He said similarly Rs 6,000 crore had been wasted on advertisements but power had not been purchased on time to prevent prolonged power cuts which were affecting both farmers and domestic consumers besides disrupting industrial operations.

Urging people to support their own regional party, Badal said “every development project you see in Punjab – be it thermal plants, roads, airports or irrigation projects and Mandis – all came about in SAD tenure in governance”. He said the SAD under the leadership of S Parkash Singh Badal had also ushered in an era of peace and communal harmony. “This is not to the liking of anti-Punjab forces and this is why I was attacked twice. He said these forces, including Waris Punjab De, were in fact a Virus which would destroy the State and endanger the lives of its youth”. Badal also spoke on how Punjab needed a leader with a vision. “I have a plan to fund my vision and know how to bring investment into the State”. He said in direct contrast Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi was fond of regaling how he could milk goats and weave cots.

The SAD president while outlining his action plan, said once the SAD took over the reins of the State, all farmers bereft of a tube well connection would be given the same immediately. He said beneficiaries would be given 50 kg wheat under the ‘aata-daal’ scheme and that the Shagun benefit would be increased to Rs one lakh and old age pension to Rs 3,100 per month. He also announced that medical and veterinary colleges would be established in every district headquarter and that a Rs 10 lakh interest free loan would be given to youth entrepreneurs besides extending a 75 per cent subsidy for animal husbandry farm projects. Government jobs will be for Punjabis and all streets and drains in 11,000 villages of the State will be cemented. Senior leaders who spoke on the occasion included halka incharge Rajwinder Singh Dharamkot, Tirath Singh Mahla, Sanjeet Singh Gill, Barjinder Singh Brar and Sarbjit Singh Jhinjher.
