S.A.S.Nagar 22 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Balwinder Singh Kumbhra, President of the SC/BC Mahapanchayat, raised the issue today before the press regarding the alleged felling of trees—some nearly a century old—located near the old bus stand in Mohali Phase-8, opposite Gurdwara Angitha Sahib. They stated that despite informing environmentalists and administrative officials about this matter, the felling of trees here continues unabated. They claimed that this felling is taking place despite a stay order from the High Court in a pre-existing case, and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.
Balwinder Singh Kumbhra appealed to all environmental enthusiasts to unite and raise their voices to save green trees. They appealed to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Chief Justice of India (CJI), and the Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal to take strict action regarding the felling of trees and to impose appropriate punishment in accordance with the law. They also demanded a CBI or ED probe into the matter and stated that the possibility of large-scale involvement of people in this case could not be ruled out.
