North America/Punjab 31 August ( PDL ) : The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) expresses its deep anguish and disappointment over the continued silence of the central government and the national media on the massive disaster that has struck Punjab. NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal stated that it is extremely unfortunate that neither the Prime Minister, nor the Home Minister, nor any senior minister of the central government has uttered even a single word on the devastation that the people of Punjab are facing today. Chahal emphasized that when villages are submerged, crops destroyed, homes washed away, and families forced into distress, the silence of the highest offices of the country is not just neglect but an insult to the sacrifices Punjab has made for the nation. Punjab has always been on the frontlines—feeding the country, safeguarding its borders, and contributing to national growth—yet in its darkest hour, the people of Punjab feel abandoned. Equally disturbing, he added, is the role of the national media. Has any Hindi or English national channel given due coverage to the scale of destruction Punjab is going through? Other states’ disasters receive round-the-clock coverage, but the suffering of Punjab is barely acknowledged.
