Chandigarh 23 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (AIFAWH) extends a 'Lal Salaam' (Red Salute) and congratulations to the CITU-affiliated Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union of West Bengal on the magnificent victory achieved through their long, militant, and organized struggle. The West Bengal government's announcement of a ₹5,000 hike in the honorarium for both Anganwadi workers and helpers is a victory for the struggles of lakhs of Anganwadi personnel. Following this increase, the honorarium for Anganwadi workers in West Bengal will rise to ₹14,000, and for helpers, to ₹11,300. This achievement is not an act of benevolence by the government but the result of years of agitation, sit-ins, demonstrations, strike and struggles of the workers who serve the country.
This victory sends a crucial message to Anganwadi workers and helpers across the country that rights are not merely asked for but won through struggle. When organized strength takes to the streets, governments are compelled to yield. While Anganwadi workers manage to grab certain benefits from state governments through their struggles, the Central Government remains deaf and mute; there has been no hike in honorarium since 2018, nor is there any provision for regular employee status, pension, gratuity, ESI, EPF, or a guarantee of minimum wages.
AIFAWH will organise our struggle against the Central Government and observe July 10th as a 'Black Day' with full vigor. We must gather in large numbers and raise our voices for our demands so that they reach the ears of the Central Government. The All-India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers calls upon Anganwadi workers and helpers across the country to draw inspiration from this victory in West Bengal and ensure the unprecedented success of the nationwide 'Day of Struggle' on July 10.
