Harassment and attacks on Anganwadi workers and helpers in the name of Mawan Dhian Satkar Yojana will not be tolerated – Anganwadi Employees Union Punjab (CITU)
Chandigarh 24 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A delegation of Anganwadi Employees Union Punjab (CITU) today met the Director of Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, Dr. Shena Agarwal and brought to her attention the serious issues faced by Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state. The delegation included the union’s state president Harjit Kaur Panjola, general secretary Subhash Rani, vice president Ranjit Kaur and general secretary of All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Usha Rani. The delegation told the Director that due to the continuous down of the server under the "Mawan Dhian Satkar Yojana", Anganwadi workers and helpers are facing public anger. Incidents of mistreatment, threats and attacks on workers are coming to light in many areas of the state. The burden of departmental failures and technical glitches is being put on the heads of Anganwadi workers, which is completely unacceptable.
The delegation also strongly raised the issue of irregular transfers of Anganwadi workers in Majitha area and said that the organization will never tolerate such oppressive decisions. Director Dr. Shena Agarwal assured the delegation that the department will take the responsibility of ensuring the safety of Anganwadi workers and helpers. He said that talks will be held with the concerned Deputy Commissioners regarding this matter and instructions will be issued to all DPOs to ensure the safety of the workers after taking stock of the situation.
The leaders of the organization clearly said that if the security of Anganwadi workers and helpers is not arranged, political or administrative pressure continues to be exerted on them or attacks are not stopped, then the Anganwadi Employees Union Punjab (CITU) will not hesitate to completely boycott the work of "Mother Daughters Respect Scheme". The union warned that instead of making Anganwadi workers a scapegoat, the government and the departments should take responsibility for their own failures. Anganwadi workers and helpers are already struggling with low salaries, increasing workload and lack of basic facilities. Now no scheme can be implemented by putting their lives and dignity at risk.
