Shalby Hospital, Mohali performs complex 9-hour joint bladder reconstruction surgery
S.A.S.Nagar 5 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Shalby Multi Specialty Hospital, Mohali, has successfully managed a highly complex bladder reconstruction case in a 42-year-old female patient who was suffering for years after two previous surgeries failed to resolve her condition. The patient had undergone her first surgery in March 2022 in Sangrur and a second surgery in July 2022 at a private hospital in Mohali. She continued to face persistent complications including vesicovaginal fistula, ureteric reimplant related issues, and ureteric obstruction.
After detailed evaluation at Shalby Mohali, the patient was taken up for a carefully planned treatment pathway instead of immediate intervention. The medical team focused on pre-surgical optimization, including increasing bladder capacity, strict control of urinary infection, and continuous monitoring before proceeding with definitive surgery.
The patient underwent a 9-hour complex joint surgery performed by Dr. Manoj Sharma, Director - Urology, Dr. Divij Jayant, GI Surgeon and Dr Manpreet Gill , Head - Anaesthesia with the objective of restoring bladder function and correcting complications resulting from the earlier failed procedures. The procedure was executed through a multidisciplinary and patient-specific approach, which played a crucial role in achieving a successful surgical outcome.
Dr. Manoj Sharma said, “This was a highly challenging reconstructive case because the patient had already undergone two surgeries and was still living with serious urinary complications. We chose a staged and carefully optimized approach before surgery, and that planning was a major reason the final outcome was successful.”
