Administration Must Act Before Manimajra Faces a Crisis Like Mauli Jagran and Hallo Majra: Residents Angry Over Contaminated Water and Low Pressure Despite 24×7 Smart City Water Project : Rajbir Singh Bhartiya
Manimajra/Chandigarh 2 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Complaints regarding contaminated water supply and low water pressure have once again been pouring in from Indira Colony and several other parts of Manimajra. Rajbir Singh Bhartiya, Senior Vice President, and Subhash Dhiman, Chairman of the Manimajra EWS Residents Welfare Association, stated that they have been continuously receiving complaints from local residents over the telephone. They questioned why residents are still receiving contaminated and unsafe water despite the implementation of the Smart City 24×7 Water Supply Pilot Project and the laying of new water pipelines.
According to the residents, the supplied water is not only unsafe for drinking but is also unsuitable for household use. People have reported that clothes become dirtier instead of cleaner after washing, white garments develop yellow stains, and other clothes are left with dirt and unwanted particles. Even utensils do not appear to be properly cleaned after washing. In the area near the railway crossing in Indira Colony, water pressure remains extremely low, forcing residents to use electric water pumps and bear additional electricity expenses.Indira Colony President Shyam Sunder, Shehzad, and a large number of local women have also strongly protested against the issue and demanded immediate action from the administration. Rajbir Singh Bhartiya and Subhash Dhiman stated that the monsoon season is approaching, and if the problem is not resolved promptly, the risk of water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea, vomiting, dysentery, and typhoid could increase significantly. They pointed out that Chandigarh has already witnessed the serious consequences of contaminated water in Mauli Jagran and Hallo Majra. Therefore, they urged the Municipal Corporation, the Water Supply Department, and the Chandigarh Administration to immediately test the quality of the water, make the test report public, resolve the issue of low water pressure, and ensure the supply of clean and safe drinking water to every resident. They emphasized that no compromise with public health will be tolerated.
