Contractors to seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention for release of ₹900 crore in pending payments

Appeal to fellow contractors not to undertake any work related to the Prime Minister’s July 17 visit

Chandigarh 9 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The All Haryana PWD Contractors Association held a crucial meeting at Nirman Sadan, Sector 33-A, Chandigarh, where contractors from across the state discussed long-pending payments, rising construction costs, and other pressing issues affecting the sector. Association Chairman Ashok Jain, President Jai Bhagwan, and Vice President Manoj Chahal said that nearly ₹900 crore in payments owed to PWD contractors by various Haryana government departments has remained pending for a prolonged period. The Association resolved to seek a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urge him to ensure the immediate release of the outstanding dues.

During the meeting, around 100 contractors met the Engineer-in-Chief and other senior officials to raise concerns over delayed payments and the financial difficulties being faced by contractors. The Association warned that if the issue is not resolved at the earliest, it will launch a statewide “Hallabol” (mass protest) movement. The office-bearers said that contractors are facing severe financial hardship due to the continuous rise in construction material prices, delayed payments, and other administrative challenges. They added that the non-release of funds is also adversely affecting the execution of development works across the state.

The Association also appealed to fellow contractors not to undertake any work related to the Prime Minister’s proposed visit on July 17 as part of its protest. It further stated that if the government fails to take prompt and positive action, a detailed agitation programme will be announced and large-scale protests will be launched across Haryana.
