SAD condemns AAP govt for trying to befool Punjabis by lying that sanitation workers had called off their strike.

Chandigarh 29 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for trying to befool people that municipal sanitisation workers had withdrawn their strike when it was still on and Punjabis were suffering due to the AAP government’s failure to implement the promises made to the safai sewaks. In a statement here, senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said he had taken feedback from Anandpur Sahib, the constituency of local bodies minister Harjot Bains as well as Nangal and Ropar and been told that sanitation workers were still on strike. “The government should implement the promises made to the safai sewaks in the run up to the municipal elections and eschew the use of force to suppress them as has happened in Barnala recently “. He also called for registration of a case against the police officers responsible for hitting women safai sewaks on their heads with lathis”. 

Dr Daljit Cheema also asserted the SAD supported the legitimate demand of doctors, pharmacists, clinical assistants and other employees of Punjab’s Mohalla Clinics for the regularisation of their services. He said the AAP government’s ill-conceived Mohalla Clinic model had not only weakened the well-established network of Sub-Health Centres (SHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs), but had also left hundreds of qualified doctors and paramedics working for years without job security. “Instead of strengthening the existing public healthcare system, the government prioritised political branding and publicity”, he added.
