Sangat should be wary of false propaganda regarding sending holy Birs to Canada, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee completely denies allegations of trade
Amritsar 12 July (PDL) : Reacting strongly to the misleading propaganda being done through social media and other media regarding sending holy Birs of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to Canada, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Secretary Balwinder Singh Kahlwan said that some people are deliberately trying to create confusion and confusion among the Sangat as well as tarnish the image of the Sikh institution, which is unfortunate and condemnable.
Kahlwan clarified that keeping in mind the religious needs and sentiments expressed by the Canadian Sangat and the Gurdwara Management Committees there for a long time, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee has sent the holy Birs of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to Canada, adorned in a Palki Sahib according to complete decorum. During this entire process, Gurmadiyada, respect and Panthic traditions have been fully taken care of.
He said that after the approval of the SGPC's In-House Committee on the demands received to take the sacred form of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji from various countries including England, Australia, Bangkok, in the light of Resolution No. 2 passed in the meeting of the Panj Singh Sahibs on September 19, 2009, the sacred forms have already been sent abroad as per the norms.
Even now, the sacred form has been sent to the said Gurdwara Sahib with respect and dignity only after the approval of the resolution number 798 of the meeting of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee dated July 28, 2025, on the request received from the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara Association, Surrey, BC, Canada. Kahlwan said that there is no scope for any kind of doubt in this regard.
He said that before sending the holy birs, Shiromani Committee member Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta had gone to Canada and inspected the entire arrangements made there. Apart from this, as per the instructions of Shiromani Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, Interim Committee member Bibi Harjinder Kaur also reached the concerned Gurdwara Sahib and had darshan of the holy birs and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made there as per the rituals.
The SGPC Secretary also completely rejected the fact that any kind of trade is being done in relation to the holy scriptures of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He said that such propaganda is completely false, baseless and misleading the devotees. He clarified that the holy scriptures are being given to the devotees without offering after a thorough investigation by the concerned Gurdwara Management Committee based on the need and demand of the devotees. Therefore, the allegations of trade or financial gain have no relation to reality.
Kahlwan appealed to all Sikh Sangat to be wary of rumours and misleading propaganda being spread through social media or other media and to verify any information before accepting it as true. He said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is fully committed to protecting the respect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Gurmaryada and Panthic traditions and there is no question of any negligence or compromise in this regard. Kahlwan said that the SGPC always respects the religious needs and sentiments of the Sikh community around the world and performs its services according to the Gurmukhi code of conduct. He said that suggestions received from the community for the respect of Guru Sahib will always be respected.
