'Smart City' Mohali Claims Exposed: No Three-Phase Power in GMADA Sector-88; Lives at Risk : Hardev Singh Ubbha
S.A.S.Nagar 9 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Hardev Singh Ubbha, State Press Secretary of BJP Punjab, stated that residents and business owners in GMADA’s Sector-88 are facing severe difficulties due to the negligence of the Punjab government—which makes grand claims about the 'Smart City' project—and the concerned departments. He noted that only single-phase electricity connections are currently available in Sector-88, whereas three-phase power is essential for commercial establishments, showrooms, and other businesses. This lack of infrastructure is causing immense trouble for the business community.
Ubbha pointed out that exposed live wires, faulty transformers, and broken electrical boxes in the Sector-88 market pose a significant threat to life and property, creating a situation where a major accident could occur at any moment. He mentioned that the matter has been brought to the attention of the Electricity Board's XEN (Executive Engineer) multiple times—both verbally and in writing—yet, regrettably, no concrete action has been taken to date. The department's apathy continues to cause distress to local residents and business owners.
Ubbha highlighted that a three-phase power connection is mandatory to operate fire pumps and obtain a Fire NOC. He questioned how business owners could secure a Fire NOC when the government and the electricity department fail to provide the necessary three-phase power infrastructure, noting that this raises serious questions about the functioning of the government and the administration. He demanded that the Punjab government, PSPCL, and GMADA immediately provide three-phase power connections in Sector-88 and replace faulty transformers. Furthermore, he urged for the immediate repair of exposed live wires and broken electrical boxes in Ward No. 41—covering Sector-86, Sambhalki village, Nanu Majra, and Sector-88—to ensure public safety. If prompt action is not taken, we will be compelled to join hands with the area's residents and traders and wage a democratic struggle.
