CU Punjab Welcomes New UG & PG Students with ‘Deeksharambh – Student Induction Programme 2026–27’

Bathinda 20 August ( PDL ) : Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) has begun its two-day ‘Deeksharambh – Student Induction Programme 2026–27’ to welcome the new batch of students and help them settle into university life. Being held on August 20–21, 2026 at the University Auditorium and Activity Hall, the programme brings together around 1,400 first-year UG and PG students from science, humanities and social sciences. The programme gives students an opportunity to understand how the University works, meet faculty members and fellow students, and learn about the academic, research and support facilities available on campus.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Acting Vice-Chancellor, who welcomed the students and encouraged them to make the most of their time at the University by focusing on academics while actively participating in co-curricular activities. Highlighting CU Punjab’s achievements, including its A+ NAAC accreditation, 77th rank in the University category in NIRF 2025, and its presence in the 601–800 global band of THE World University Rankings 2026 and 251–300 band of THE Asia University Rankings 2026, Prof. Wusirika encouraged students to take pride in being part of the CU Punjab family and work hard to achieve their career goals.

During the orientation, Prof. P.K. Mishra, Associate Dean Academics, and Prof. Felix Bast, SWAYAM Coordinator, introduced students to the curriculum and teaching-learning system. Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director, IQAC, spoke about the University’s accreditation, rankings and best practices. Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director, Research and Development, and Prof. Raj Kumar, In-charge, Central Instrumentation Lab, introduced students to the research opportunities and facilities available at CU Punjab.

Students were also guided on examinations, forms and certificates by Rajender Kalra, Deputy Registrar (Examinations) and Dr. Amandeep Singh Brar, Deputy Nodal Officer, SAMARTH, while Prof. Vinod Pathania, Coordinator, Training and Placement Cell, explained the training and placement opportunities available to them.

The induction programme also familiarised students with the University’s Internal Complaints Committee and grievance redressal mechanism. Prof. Anjana Munshi, Chairperson, Internal Complaints Committee, and Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean, Students’ Welfare, explained the support systems available to students regarding grievance mechanism. Students were introduced to the University Library, including their facilities and services, by Dr. Sudeep Sharma, Librarian and Dr. Bhupinder Singh, Deputy Librarian. They were also introduced to the Central University of Punjab Research and Development Foundation (CUPRDF) and its opportunities in entrepreneurship and innovation by Dr. Akshay Nag, CEO, CUPRDF.

The second day of the programme will focus on hostel and student-support facilities, including mess and canteen services, discipline, anti-ragging measures, medical and counselling facilities, led by Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean, Students’ Welfare, and his team. Students will also learn about opportunities in NSS, sports, cultural activities and the Earn-While-You-Learn Scheme. A separate orientation session is being organised for international students, while discipline-specific interactions are helping students adapt to their academic programmes and the new learning environment. Deeksharambh 2026–27 aims to provide students with a welcoming and confident start to their university journey.
