1,100 Women to Tie Rakhis on Wrists of 1,100 Soldiers in Fazilka - Poster released by Governor Kataria

Chandigarh 18 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : This Raksha Bandhan, the sacred bond of Rakhi will go beyond family boundaries and reach the nation’s frontiers, as the border district of Fazilka prepares to host the unique ‘Rakhi Sarhad Ke Naam’ programme at the historic Asafwala War Memorial on August 23. The poster of the programme was launched in Chandigarh on Tuesday by Punjab Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, in the presence of Shaheedon Ki Samadhi Committee President Karan Gilhotra and members Navdeep Asija and Raman Khurana. Under the initiative, 1,100 women from Fazilka will tie Rakhis on the wrists of 1,100 Indian Army and BSF personnel, expressing respect, gratitude and solidarity with the soldiers who guard the nation’s borders, said Karan Gilhotra. The central message of the programme is: “Honouring National Defence… Celebrating the Pride of Sisters.”

The significance of the programme is heightened by its venue — the Asafwala War Memorial, which commemorates the 232 Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while defending the Fazilka sector during the 1971 India-Pakistan War. “Tying Rakhis to soldiers at this historic memorial will be a tribute not only to our serving personnel but also to the bravehearts who laid down their lives in the service of the nation,” said Navdeep Asija. According to the organisers, serving Army and BSF personnel, veterans, families of martyrs, their relatives, civilians, social organisations, schools, religious institutions and representatives from various sections of society will participate in the programme. Punjab Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria will be the Chief Guest at the event, which will also be attended by senior officers of the Indian Army, BSF and civil administration.

Raksha Bandhan traditionally celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. In Fazilka, this cherished tradition will take on a larger national meaning, as women tie the sacred thread on the wrists of soldiers protecting the country’s borders. 1,100 women, 1,100 soldiers and one sacred thread will come together to convey a collective message of gratitude, respect and solidarity with India’s armed forces. The programme will also highlight the contribution and sacrifices of soldiers, the resilience of martyr families and the unique sentiments of people living in India’s border areas. The organisers said the initiative is aimed at sending a powerful message of patriotism, gratitude and national unity from Fazilka to people across the country — reaffirming that while soldiers stand guard at the borders, the people of the nation stand firmly with them.
