Demand to connect new sectors with CTU bus routes — Secretary Avikesh Gupta directs the officials to take immediate action
S.A.S.Nagar 18 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Due to the lack of local public transport in Mohali, senior BJP Punjab leader Hardev Singh Ubha along with his wife and councilor of Ward No. 41 of Municipal Corporation Mohali, Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur Ubha met with Secretary of Transport Department Mr. Avikesh Gupta at the Secretariat in Sector-9, Chandigarh today and submitted a memorandum to resolve the problems faced by the general public and especially the residents of Mohali who work in Chandigarh, Secretariat, PGI and Chandigarh bus stand.
Hardev Singh Ubha demanded expansion of CTU local bus service in Mohali, connecting the already running bus routes with other sectors of Mohali and starting new routes. He said that increasing public transport facilities is the main need of the hour in view of the increasing population in the rapidly developing areas of Mohali. He especially demanded the launch of new CTU bus routes in Wave Estate Sector-85/86, Sector-88, Sector-99/98, Sector-80 and Sector-105 and construction of new bus stops as per the requirement. He said that a large number of residents of these areas have to commute to Chandigarh daily.
Ubha said that every day thousands of people from Mohali go to Chandigarh bus stand, government and private offices, hospitals, educational institutions and commercial areas. Especially for the people working in Chandigarh due to lack of regular and affordable bus service, they have to depend on private vehicles or other expensive means. With better service of CTU, besides getting economic relief to the people, the traffic pressure on the roads will also reduce.
After listening to the demands carefully, Transport Secretary Mr. Avikesh Gupta asked the concerned officials to take immediate action on the matter and assured speedy action on the demands. He said that CTU is going to get a new batch of buses soon and after this, efforts will be made to fulfill the demands regarding new routes and expansion of bus service to Mohali.
Gurpreet Kaur Ubha thanked Mr. Avikesh Gupta and said that the assurance given by the department to solve the long-standing problem of local transport of the people of Mohali is welcome. She said that considering the increasing population in the new sectors of Mohali including Ward No. 41, the expansion of local bus service is very important. She expressed the hope that the expansion of new routes and bus stops will provide great relief to the residents of Mohali, especially those working in Chandigarh.
