Inauguration of road and walking track development work in Sector 36

Chandigarh 25 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Work on road construction and the development of a walking track, stretching from House Number 205 in Sector 36, Chandigarh, to the small gate of Hibiscus Garden, was inaugurated today. This area had long been a source of trouble for local residents. Waterlogging during the rainy season caused significant difficulties for commuting. Moreover, the rough and inconvenient path posed considerable problems, especially for the elderly and for residents who walked in the Hibiscus Garden during the morning and evening hours. Under this development project, paver tiles will be laid on a road approximately 40 feet wide, and a 6-foot-wide walking track will also be developed alongside it. This will provide residents of the area with a better, safer, and more convenient route for commuting, while also greatly benefiting those who go for morning and evening walks.

Residents of Sector 36 had long been demanding this development work. Jasbir Singh Bunty, the Councilor for Ward No. 24 and former Senior Deputy Mayor, raised this issue with the Municipal Corporation on multiple occasions and consistently followed up with the concerned officials. Previously, the work was stalled because the land did not fall under the Municipal Corporation's jurisdiction. Thanks to the Councilor's persistent efforts and coordination with the relevant departments, this long-pending demand is now set to be fulfilled. On this occasion, SDO Sahil Thakur stated that the project would cost approximately ₹15 lakh and that efforts would be made to complete the construction work ahead of the stipulated four-month timeframe.

Local residents expressed their gratitude to Councilor Jasbir Singh Bunty and appreciated his continuous efforts towards the development of Ward No. 24 and Chandigarh. They stated that this project would be extremely beneficial, especially for senior citizens, who previously faced significant difficulty navigating the uneven and waterlogged paths. On the occasion of the commencement of the work, Captain Rajesh Sakhuja (President, RWA Sector 36-A), Major General C.S. Webley (Former President), Manisha (Vice President), JE Pradeep Kumar, Supervisor Bhuvnesh Bhatti, Vijay Goyal (Director, Kala Sagar), and Victor Sidhu, along with other local dignitaries and residents, were present.

Captain Rajesh Sakhuja, President of Sector 36A, formally inaugurated the construction work by breaking a coconut. Manisha, Vice-President of the Sector 36 Residents' Welfare Association (RWA), also participated in the inauguration ceremony. Residents and dignitaries present on the occasion exchanged good wishes and appreciated the efforts being made for the area's continued development. Thanking Councilor Jasbir Singh Bunty, local residents stated that the construction of the road and walking track was a long-standing demand of theirs. Its completion will facilitate smoother movement in the area, alleviate the problem of waterlogging, and provide residents with better facilities for morning and evening walks.
