CPIM and CPI condemn attack on Sukhbir Badal Chandigarh 13 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : CPI(M) State Secretary Comrade Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon and CPI State Secretary Comrade Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal have issued a joint statement condemning the attack on former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal at Gurdwara Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded. They said that such an attack on a political leader at a religious place cannot be justified. Both the communist leaders said that this attack on the Gurudwara should be condemned in its entirety. They said that such an attack on a holy place where the welfare of all is sought increases the feeling of insecurity among the people and also raises questions on the security forces. The leaders said that to maintain the sanctity of religious places, concrete security measures should be taken to prevent such attacks.

Income Tax Department, Mumbai, Inducts Punjab’s 2 Meritorious Sportspersons under Sports Quota

Mumbai/Chandigarh 12 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Income Tax Department, Mumbai, has inducted two accomplished sportspersons from Punjab under the sports quota, further strengthening its commitment to recognising sporting excellence and nurturing high-calibre sporting talent in public service. The appointment letters were formally handed over to the newly inducted sportspersons by the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, Alok Kumar, at Aayakar Bhawan, Mumbai, on August 12, 2026. Applications were invited vide Notification dated January 7, 2026, for 97 vacancies. The recruitment process attracted 3,595 applications from sportspersons across various disciplines. Following rigorous scrutiny and evaluation in accordance with the prescribed criteria, 97 candidates were selected on merit.

A significant highlight of the recruitment is that over 80 per cent of the selected sportspersons have represented or participated at the international level, reflecting the exceptional calibre of sporting talent joining the Department. Among the selected candidates, two accomplished sportspersons from Punjab have been inducted as Tax Assistants. Anmolpreet Kaur, 26, Tax Assistant – Basketball

Anmolpreet Kaur has represented India at the international level in basketball. She represented the country at the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 Division B, held in Shenzhen, China. She also represented India at the 19th Asian Games, Hangzhou 2022, demonstrating her experience on major international sporting platforms.

Joshnoor Dhindsa, 22, Tax Assistant – Volleyball

Joshnoor Dhindsa represented India at the Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship 2022, where the Indian team secured the Silver Medal. He also represented India at the AVC Cup for Men 2022, adding to his experience in international-level volleyball.

Opportunity to Continue Sporting Careers

The recruitment marks a significant milestone in the Income Tax Department’s efforts to promote sporting excellence while providing accomplished athletes an opportunity to serve the nation. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, Shri Alok Kumar, assured the newly inducted sportspersons that they would have every opportunity to continue their sports practice and participate in competitions while discharging their official responsibilities. He further stated that the Income Tax Department, Mumbai, expects the newly inducted sportspersons to bring to public service the same discipline, determination and excellence that have distinguished their sporting careers.

As part of the induction programme, the newly recruited sportspersons were briefed on their roles, responsibilities and applicable Government rules, enabling them to begin their professional journey in the Department with a clear understanding of their duties. The induction of the two sportspersons from Punjab reflects the Department’s continued support for sporting talent and its endeavour to create an enabling environment where accomplished athletes can contribute to public service while continuing to pursue excellence in their respective sporting disciplines.
