Income Tax Department, North West Region, Celebrates 80th Independence Day with
Chandigarh 15 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Income Tax Department, North West Region, Chandigarh, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour at Aayakar Bhawan, Sector 17-E, Chandigarh, on August 15, 2026. Senior officers and officials of the Department, retired officers, members of the Income Tax family, NCC cadets, students, teachers and distinguished guests participated in the celebrations. Mayank Priyadarshi, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North West Region, Chandigarh, graced the event as the Chief Guest.
The programme commenced with the National Song, followed by hoisting of the National Flag by the Chief Guest and the National Anthem. NCC cadets from Kundan International School also participated in the proceedings. The Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and senior officers released tricolour balloons, symbolising national unity and progress. The children of departmental officers and officials took centrestage in the cultural programme, presenting patriotic songs, dances, poems and musical performances, alongside students of Shivalik Public School and Kundan International School. The Manthan Group added a special highlight with a thought-provoking play, “Nasha Mukti” — Independence from Drugs, conveying a strong message of freedom from addiction and the importance of civic responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, Mayank Priyadarshi, IRS, highlighted the Income Tax Department’s vital role in the nation-building process through resource mobilisation, efficient tax administration, taxpayer services, transparency, digital initiatives and promotion of voluntary compliance. He appreciated the commitment of officers and officials and urged them to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and public service.
A special moment of recognition was the felicitation of Harjinder Kaur, Commonwealth Games silver medallist in weightlifting, who is serving as an Income Tax Inspector, in appreciation of her outstanding sporting achievement and contribution to the nation. The celebrations also included felicitation of participants and a tricolour-themed selfie point. The enthusiastic participation of one and all reflected the Department’s strong spirit of camaraderie, service and collective pride. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks, reaffirming the Income Tax Department’s commitment to efficient public service.
