International Youth Day 2026 Celebrated in Chandigarh; Young Changemakers hnoured
Chandigarh 13 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Global Youth Federation celebrated International Youth Day 2026 at Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32-C, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the State NSS Cell, U.T. Chandigarh; MY Bharat Chandigarh, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India; Rotary Club Chandigarh; APSWDP; and the host college. The programme brought together youth leaders, volunteers, social workers, educators and students to celebrate youth leadership, volunteerism, humanitarian service and community development. Saurabh Joshi, Honourable Mayor of Chandigarh, attended as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College; Dr. Nemi Chand, State Liaison Officer, NSS; Anastasia Ilyushina, Russian House, New Delhi; Dr. Vivek Trivedi, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh; Vinay Kumar, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat, Chandigarh, along with other distinguished guests.
Addressing the gathering, Saurabh Joshi highlighted the important role of youth in nation-building and encouraged young people to actively participate in volunteerism and community service. A major highlight was the Award and Recognition Ceremony, where individuals, NGOs, educators, social workers, volunteers and young changemakers were honoured for their contribution to humanitarian service and community development. The programme also featured cultural performances, motivational sessions and international youth messages.
Participants took the TB Mukt Bharat Pledge and Swachhta Pledge. Vinay Kumar, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat, Chandigarh, administered the Swachhta Pledge to all attendees, reaffirming their commitment to cleanliness and a healthier nation. Speaking on the occasion, Rohit Kumar, Director, Global Youth Federation, India, emphasized the importance of empowering youth through opportunities, recognition and leadership platforms to build an inclusive and sustainable society. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, the National Anthem and a high-tea session. The organizers expressed gratitude to all guests, partner organizations, volunteers and participants for making the celebration a success.
