Livasa Hospital gives new lease of life to Bathinda brain stroke patient
Bathinda 20 August ( PDL ) : A 56-year-old male acute ischemic stroke patient from Bathinda got a new lease of life after a successful treatment with advanced mechanical thrombectomy at Livasa Hospital, Mohali. Giving information during a press conference at Bathinda on Thursday, Dr. Vineet Saggar, director–neuro & spine surgeon and head neuro-interventions at Livasa Hospital Mohali said that the patient had a major blockage in a blood vessel supplying the brain. Considering the nature of the stroke and the patient’s clinical condition, the medical team proceeded with mechanical thrombectomy, a minimally invasive endovascular procedure in which a specialised device is guided through the blood vessels to reach and remove the clot obstructing blood flow to the brain.
The successful removal of the clot restored blood flow to the affected area of the brain, following which the patient showed significant improvement in speech and movement within hours, said Dr Saggar. Dr. Saggar further explained that mechanical thrombectomy has transformed the treatment of selected patients with large-vessel occlusion strokes. He emphasised that stroke is a medical emergency where every minute matters, and timely recognition, rapid imaging and immediate referral to an appropriately equipped stroke centre can significantly influence outcomes.
Dr. Saggar also explained NAMASTE protocol as a simple way to recognise and respond to suspected stroke patients which means- N for note the symptoms , A for act immediately , M for make the emergency call, A to avoid delay, S for shift to a stroke-ready hospital, T for time is brain and E for emergency treatment. Anurag Yadav, CEO- Livasa Hospitals, said, “This case demonstrates the difference that timely access to advanced stroke care can make. Our focus is to ensure that patients across Punjab can access specialised treatment when every minute is critical.”
