NIPER Mohali Celebrates 80th Independence Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Pharmaceutical Innovation
S.A.S.Nagar 15 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), S A S Nagar, celebrated 80th Independence Day with great fervor and enthusiasm. The celebration started with the recitation of National song – ‘Vande Mataram ‘. Thereafter Prof Dulal Panda, Director, NIPER, hoisted the National Flag, followed by recitation of the and National Anthem. In his institutional address, Prof. Panda mentioned that as we come together under the tricolour, we take a moment to express our gratitude to the countless freedom fighters whose courage and sacrifices have given us this invaluable liberty. He mentioned that after 79 years of gaining independence, our country is making progress in every field. The skills and intellect of our people have powered the world. We have evolved into a nation that values science and technology, he said, adding that we have embraced the highest principles in these fields and have been recognized for our many scientific achievements.
He said India’s 80th Independence Day in 2026 is being marked by major government-led campaigns focusing on 150 years of Vande Mataram and Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047. This year’s Independence Day revolves around the idea, “Developed India through Indigenous Technologies, Green Transition, and Atmanirbhar Defence,” which calls us to action and it reminds us that true independence is not only about political freedom but also about self-reliance, innovation, and sustainability. In 2026, India achieved landmark scientific milestones including the successful criticality of its 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR), major advances in space missions like Gaganyaan and LuPEX, and breakthroughs in quantum technology, AI, and biotechnology. These achievements solidify India’s position as a global innovation hub. He said at NIPER Mohali, we take pride in our contribution to India’s national journey in healthcare and technology. He also mentioned about the starting of two new courses at NIPER Mohali i.e. Master’s in Biopharmaceuticals and Pharmaceutical Regulatory Sciences.
He told as we look forward, the institutional priorities that will guide NIPER Mohali’s work in the coming years are: Translational Research, Industry-Academia Collaboration, Clinical Research Ecosystem Intellectual Property Generation and licensing, Global Benchmarking, Compliance and Governance, Capacity Building and Student Empowerment He said that pharmaceutical sciences and technology have grown into a highly influential field and is among the champion sectors. In the end, he said that as we salute the tricolour today and look toward Viksit Bharat 2047, let us remember that independence is sustained by responsibility. NIPER Mohali’s responsibility is to lead India’s pharmaceutical and medical device sector into a future defined by innovation, compliance, and global relevance. Together, we will make India shine brighter than ever before. It was followed by the cultural programme where students and the children of the employees presented colourful programmes under the theme of patriotism. The ceremony ended with the distribution of sweets to all the attendees.
