PWR Set to Bring a ‘Revolution’ to Professional Wrestling in India, Taking Inspiration from WWE

Chandigarh 24 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : With the aim of giving professional wrestling a new identity and a bigger platform in India, PWR (Pro Wrestling Rebellion) has stepped up its preparations for a series of major events. At a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club on Monday, star wrestler Jeet Rama, also known as Satender Dagar, who has represented India in WWE NXT, said that nearly 33 crore people in India follow and enjoy professional wrestling. Despite this huge audience, the sport has yet to receive a platform of international stature in the country. PWR, he said, is working to bridge this gap. Jeet Rama said PWR aims to provide professional wrestling in India with an organised and popular platform on the lines of WWE, where wrestlers from India as well as abroad can showcase their talent before Indian audiences. He said India has no shortage of wrestling talent; what is needed is the right platform and opportunities to help wrestlers grow.

The next major step in PWR’s campaign will be the ‘Road to Kranti’ live professional wrestling event, scheduled for August 29 at Dhandra Village in Ludhiana. The event will begin at 7 pm and feature several wrestlers from India and overseas competing in the ring. According to the organisers, entry for spectators will be free. Wrestlers present at the press conference said the Ludhiana event would be more than just a wrestling show and would mark the beginning of PWR’s larger mission. Along with giving audiences an opportunity to experience live professional wrestling, the event will provide Indian wrestlers with a platform to showcase their skills.

According to PWR, the Ludhiana ‘Road to Kranti’ will be followed by the mega ‘PWR KRANTI’ event at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on September 11. The organisers said several prominent professional wrestlers from India and around the world are expected to participate. Through ‘KRANTI’, PWR plans to take professional wrestling in India to a larger level. The organisation is also working towards creating opportunities for emerging wrestling talent, encouraging more youngsters to take up the sport and developing a strong professional wrestling league and event culture in India. Jeet Rama said, “Professional wrestling in India can now move beyond entertainment and emerge as a major sport and industry. PWR’s aim is to bring a new revolution in this direction.” Several wrestlers associated with PWR and members of the team were present on the occasion. The organisers appealed to wrestling fans to attend the events in Ludhiana on August 29 and Delhi on September 11.
