Taking Papers Away from Elderly Sikh MLA Jarnail Singh in the Assembly is a Direct Reflection of Congress’s Anti-Sikh Mindset: Insult to the Sikh Community Will Not Be Tolerated
Chandigarh 28 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Harkesh Singh Mohri, President, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Haryana said that A deeply condemnable incident that has shamed the dignity of democracy and hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community came to light inside the Haryana Legislative Assembly today. The manner in which Congress MLA Indu Raj Narwal (Bhalu) misbehaved with elderly Sikh MLA Jarnail Singh Ji, who was raising his voice for justice for the victims of the anti-Sikh riots, has once again exposed the anti-Sikh mindset of the Congress before the nation.
During the Assembly session, when elderly Sikh MLA Jarnail Singh Ji was demanding an apology from those who consider the perpetrators and accused of the anti-Sikh riots as their role models, Congress MLA from Baroda, Indu Raj Narwal (Bhalu), crossed all limits of decorum. The Congress MLA forcibly snatched the papers from Jarnail Singh Ji’s hand and threw them into the air. This disgraceful conduct is not merely an insult to a respected and elderly legislator; it is also a serious affront to the sentiments of the entire Sikh community and Sikh Sangat across India and abroad.
Seeking justice for the victims of the anti-Sikh riots and demanding protection of their dignity is the duty of every sensitive and responsible citizen. However, the attempt made inside the House to silence this legitimate and deeply sensitive demand is extremely disturbing and has caused widespread resentment. The act of snatching the papers and throwing them into the air clearly reflects an attitude in which, instead of healing the wounds of the Sikh community, the Congress appears to be making a mockery of their pain and suffering. There is deep anger and resentment among the Sikh community over this serious incident. The self-respect, dignity and honour of the Sikh community will not be compromised under any circumstances. On this extremely sensitive issue concerning justice and dignity for the victims, the Congress Party must immediately clarify its position.
The Congress high command must answer before the nation: Does it support the misconduct and anti-Sikh attitude displayed by its MLA? We demand that the Congress Party immediately tender an unconditional apology to the entire Sikh community for this disgraceful act and take strict disciplinary action against MLA Indu Raj Narwal. If the Congress fails to clarify its position, the Sikh Sangat will be compelled to launch democratic protests at the national level against this insult.
