Tracking Track Starts Cracking Within Just One Month, Raising Serious Questions Over Construction Quality
Chandigarh 24 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Serious concerns have been raised regarding the quality of the newly constructed tracking track at the park in Hello Majra, Ward No. 20. The track was completed only about one month ago, but the cemented surface has already started developing cracks at several places. Photographs from the spot clearly show cracks appearing on the surface of the track. Surprisingly, instead of carrying out a permanent and technically sound repair, an attempt is now being made to apply a fresh layer of cement slurry over the damaged surface.
Social Worker Arvind Singh has urged the Hon’ble Municipal Commissioner to take serious note of the matter and order a proper quality inspection of the construction work. The quality of the cement and other materials used, along with compliance with the prescribed technical standards, should also be thoroughly examined. Arvind Singh said that public money is being spent on development works, and such works should remain durable for years—not start deteriorating within a few weeks. If a newly constructed track has already started cracking, it raises a serious question mark over the quality of construction. Simply covering the cracks with cement slurry cannot be considered a permanent solution.
He appealed to the Commissioner to conduct an on-site inspection, fix accountability if any negligence or substandard work is found, and ensure that the track is repaired or reconstructed as per the prescribed quality standards. “There should be no compromise on the quality of development works—because this is public money.”
