CBM joins Chandigarh Administration's campaign against drug abuse
Chandigarh 15 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Strengthening its commitment towards social responsibility, Chandigarh Vyapar Mandal (CBM) has decided to actively participate in the campaign against drug abuse being run by the Chandigarh Administration. In this regard, a meeting of senior CBM officials was held today under the chairmanship of President Sanjeev Chadha. The meeting discussed how to effectively conduct an awareness campaign against drug abuse in various markets across the city and involve as many traders, employees, and ordinary citizens as possible. General Secretaries Balwinder Singh and Naresh Mahajan, Vice Presidents Mohit Sood and Baljinder Gujral along with other senior officials and market representatives were present in the meeting.
It is noteworthy that during the programme organised in Sector-17 under the chairmanship of Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, President Sanjeev Chadha had expressed his resolve that the message of awareness against drug abuse would be spread to every market of the city. Addressing the meeting, President Sanjeev Chadha said that traders are an important and responsible part of society. The President stands firmly with the administration in the fight against social evils like drug addiction. Our effort will be to ensure this campaign reaches every market and every family. On the call of Pradhan, many markets including Grain Market Sector-26, Sector-46 Market, Kohinoor Complex Market and Sector-19, 37, 26 and Manimajra have agreed to organize awareness programs and oath ceremonies in their respective areas.
On this occasion, Chairman Charanjeev Singh suggested that the CBM delegation visit major markets in the city and effectively spread the message against drug abuse through oath-taking and resolution programs. He also appealed to the administration to provide additional parking in the markets in view of the upcoming festival season. CBM President Sanjeev Chadha and Vice Chairman Diwakar Sahunja proposed to put up an oath board in all the markets, on which shopkeepers, employees and people visiting the market should take a pledge that I will neither consume drugs nor will I allow anyone to consume drugs in my market or sector.
CBM Finance Secretary Radhe Lal Bajaj suggested distributing pamphlets related to the ill effects of drugs and putting up awareness banners in every shop and market. CBM clarified that this campaign against drug abuse is completely a social and public awareness campaign, in which the business community will work together with the administration to save the young generation from drug abuse and play a positive role in building a healthy and drug-free society.
