GIEAIA seeks merger of four public sector general insurers
Chandigarh 25 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The General Insurance Employees All India Association (GIEAIA) on Friday launched its outreach campaign in Chandigarh, seeking merger of the four public sector general insurance companies into a single public sector insurance corporation on the lines of LIC. Representatives of the Association’s Class 1, 3, 4 and Pensioners Wings visited various offices and interacted with employees and officers. They discussed key issues facing public sector insurers, including recruitment, non-core benefits, promotion policies and the Association’s future action plan.
Addressing a press conference, GIEAIA National General Secretary Trilok Singh said public sector general insurance companies play an important role in providing social and economic security to citizens, farmers, workers and small businesses. The Association urged the Government of India to merge the four companies to strengthen the public sector general insurance sector and improve services. It also sought adequate recruitment across cadres, necessary capital infusion and improvements in promotion policies.
Other demands included a reasonable increase in third-party insurance premiums, stronger regulatory oversight of private hospitals, full pension benefits for employees covered under NPS, and regularisation and better pay for contract workers and care takers. The Association also supported pensioners’ demands, sought early pension updation and called for greater transparency in promotion policies for Class 1, 3 and 4 employees.
