Chandigarh 4 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : BJP National Headquarters In-Charge and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh today said that the Bhagwant Mann-Arvind Kejriwal government in Punjab has crossed all limits of brutality and repression. The alleged police torture of Mohanjeet Singh from Sheron village in Sangrur has exposed how the AAP government is using the police to silence every voice that questions its failures. Mohanjeet Singh had shown a black flag during Bhagwant Mann’s Lok Milni programme against the AAP government’s failure to control the drug menace and the deepening drug network in Punjab. Instead of answering the questions of the people, Bhagwant Mann chose the path of police brutality. Mohanjeet has alleged that he was stripped, brutally beaten, subjected to electric shocks, and had his beard and hair forcibly plucked. His elderly mother and sister were also allegedly tortured and humiliated.
Chugh said the most serious allegation is that while the young man was allegedly being tortured, videos of his ordeal were shown to senior AAP leaders through a video call. If true, the question is not merely about police brutality, but about the political protection under which such brutality was allegedly carried out. Chugh said that the Punjab Police should have been fighting drugs, gangsters and mafias, but under the AAP government it is being used against ordinary citizens who dare to question those in power. When the police are turned into a political weapon to silence dissent, there is no difference left between the AAP government and police brutality.
Chugh also spoke to Mohanjeet Singh over a video call and assured him that every Punjabi stands with him and that the Bharatiya Janata Party will provide every possible support to ensure justice for him. Chugh said no citizen can be punished for raising his voice against the drug menace and the BJP stands firmly with Mohanjeet and his family. Chugh said he has written to the National Human Rights Commission demanding that it take suo motu cognisance of the matter, order an independent high-level inquiry and ensure that criminal cases are registered against every police official found responsible. He said the victim and his family must be provided security and the guilty must face the full force of law. Chugh said Arvind Kejriwal may try to suppress Punjab’s voice through fear and repression, but he cannot silence the people of Punjab. The people of Punjab will give this dictatorial government a befitting answer.
