Punjab Secretariat Retired Officers Association Meeting on the 27th
SAS Nagar, September 24 (Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal): Shyam Lal Sharma, President of the Punjab Secretariat Services (Retired Officers) Association, announced that the association's general body meeting will be held in Chandigarh on September 27. Issues concerning pensioners' demands will be discussed during this meeting. He urged the Punjab government to release the 18% Dearness Allowance (DA) and all due arrears—along with 6% interest—in accordance with the decision delivered by the Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He also demanded that pensioners' pensions be revised based on the 2.59 formula, that the monthly development charge of ₹200 levied on pensioners and employees be withdrawn, and that the fixed medical allowance be increased from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000 per month. Bills submitted by pensioners for the reimbursement of medical treatment expenses should be settled without delay to alleviate the difficulties faced by pensioners and senior citizens.
He noted that the Honorable High Court, in its decision, had directed that payment be made within 14 days—a deadline that expired on August 17. Prior to this, the Single Bench had ordered payment to be made by June 30, 2026. He pointed out that the government has not yet secured any relief from the Honorable Supreme Court; the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the government remains pending and contains certain defects. Therefore, the Honorable High Court's decision should be implemented immediately; if the government wishes to attach a condition, it may specify while implementing the order that the decision remains subject to the final outcome of the case in the Honorable Supreme Court. Manohar Singh Makkar, Umakant Tiwari, B.S. Sodhi, Amarjit Singh Walia, Surjit Singh Sheetal, Dhanna Singh, Karnail Singh Saini, Chandra Surekha, Satnam Kaur, Asha Sood, and Jaswinder Kaur Batra were present on this occasion.
