Chandigarh 29 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : On September 26, Joginder Kaur Sandhu, an elderly NRI woman, held a press conference alongside Balwinder Singh Kumbhra—president of the SC/BC Mahapanchayat Punjab—and other leaders at the protest site near the Phase-7 traffic lights in Mohali. During the conference, she announced that on Tuesday, September 29, she would stage an indefinite sit-in protest outside the Punjab DGP's headquarters in Chandigarh's Sector 9 and would observe a hunger strike there until she received justice.
A stir rippled through the police administration today, September 29, when Bibi Sandhu staged a protest outside the DGP headquarters. The SHO, accompanied by his team, approached Bibi Sandhu and inquired about the incident she had experienced. After this, they were immediately taken inside the headquarters, where a meeting was arranged for them with DGP Amarjit Singh Rai. Inside the headquarters, DGP Amarjit Singh Rai listened to everything BiBi Sandhu had to say. Following the discussion, DGP Rai assured her that action would be taken on her demand within 15 days.Briefing the press, NRI Bibi Joginder Kaur Sandhu said, It has been 24 years that I have been running from pillar to post seeking justice, but no one has listened to me. I am tired of submitting written petitions, yet I have faced nothing but stonewalling. I am living a life of great distress, while the accused roam freely. He stated that during today's meeting with DGP Rai, the latter listened to him very attentively and assured him that appropriate and strict action would be taken against the accused within 15 days. He further added that the position or posting held by the accused would not be a factor in the matter.
Bibi Sandhu further stated that she has full faith in DGP Rai, as he has tried to help her on several occasions in the past, though he was unable to do so due to constraints. She reiterated her complete confidence in DGP Rai's integrity. Bibi Sandhu expressed hope that DGP Rai would take action within 15 days and that the accused would be put behind bars.
