Strong condemnation of police repression against farmers in Haryana : Lakhowal
Paddy procurement should begin immediately, and adequate supply of DAP must be ensured by addressing the shortage.
Chandigarh 23 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Harinder Singh Lakhowal, State President of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal), issued a press statement strongly condemning the BJP government's actions—including lathi-charges, the firing of tear gas shells, and the use of water cannons—against farmers who were distressed by the delay in the government procurement of paddy in Haryana. He also urged the governments of Punjab and Haryana to commence paddy procurement immediately. Issuing a stern warning to the Haryana BJP government regarding the oppression of farmers, he stated that they would not remain silent spectators to the atrocities being committed against their brethren.
Lakhowal has clearly told the Bhagwant Singh Mann government that while the arrival of paddy has begun in some areas of Punjab, the government has not yet initiated the procurement process. Similarly, reports of a DAP shortage for sowing are coming in from across the state; therefore, the paddy procurement process should be started immediately, and an adequate supply of DAP ensured.
