Vacant Ground Behind Old Tin Shed School in Hallomajra Turns Into Dense Jungle, Raising Safety Concerns

Chandigarh 26 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The vacant ground located behind the old Tin Shed School in Hallomajra, Ward No. 20, has become covered with dense bushes and wild vegetation, creating serious concern among local residents. Residents allege that people involved in drug use are taking advantage of the bushes and sitting there to consume drugs. The area is also used as a shortcut by people returning from duty in the Industrial Area. The nearby vegetable market and fish market further increase the movement of people in the area. Social worker Arvind Singh said that children in Hallomajra do not have an adequate playground. The vacant ground can be cleaned, levelled and developed into a proper cricket, football and multi-purpose sports ground, providing children with a safe place to play.

He said that the Hon’ble Governor has been making continuous efforts towards making Chandigarh drug-free, while the Chandigarh Police is also working to prevent drugs and crime. In such a situation, dense bushes and unattended open spaces along important public routes can create security concerns. A clean and open ground would improve visibility and reduce the possibility of anti-social elements using the area as a hiding place.

Arvind Singh questioned the Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation as to why residents have to repeatedly submit complaints when officials such as Inspectors, JEs, SDOs and other field staff are already responsible for maintaining their respective areas. He said that if regular inspections, timely cutting of bushes and proper cleanliness are carried out, residents would not have to repeatedly raise the same complaints.

He urged the Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation to immediately clear the dense vegetation, clean and level the entire ground, and develop it as a proper playground for local children. This would not only provide much-needed sports facilities but also help prevent the area from becoming a place for drug use or other anti-social activities. He further said that the location is very close to an important entry point of Chandigarh, and the neglected condition of the area also affects the image of Chandigarh as a “Beautiful City.” The demand for immediate action has also been supported by Ganesh, Praveen Khatri, former Sarpanch Tejinder Singh, Khadi Board Chairman Didar Singh, Jatin Mishra, Naresh Yadav, Neeraj Kumar and Bhishan Kumar, along with other local residents.
