Goldy was detained by the police during Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s visit to Sangrur. Warring said that Goldy had announced in advance that he had certain questions to ask to the Chief Minister. However, much before the Chief Minister’s visit, Goldy was detained and prevented from asking any questions. “I wonder why Bhagwant Mann is afraid of Goldy?” Warring asked, while telling him that today he may be able to use the Punjab Police but within a few months more once the code of conduct is in place, how can he stop people from asking questions. Chandigarh 18 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today condemned the killing of Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Harjit Singh while on duty in Amritsar and the separate killing of a young man, Sahilpreet Singh, in the city, saying the two incidents within hours had once again exposed the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Punjab. Reacting to the killings, Warring said the fact that a police officer could be targeted and killed while performing his duty was a matter of grave concern. He said the safety of ordinary citizens had also come under serious question when police personnel themselves were being attacked. “Nobody is safe in Punjab today. If a police officer on duty can be followed and shot dead, what sense of security can an ordinary citizen have?” he asked, adding, the killing of ASI Harjit Singh was particularly disturbing because it involved a serving police officer who was performing his duty.
The PCC president said the latest incidents could not be viewed in isolation and alleged that repeated attacks on police personnel, shootings and criminal violence reflected the complete failure of the Aam Aadmi Party government to ensure effective law and order in the state.“The AAP government has created an environment in which gangsters and criminals feel emboldened. When a government gives political space and legitimacy to people with criminal backgrounds, it sends a dangerous message to society and weakens the morale of the police force,” Warring noted while pointing out that recently the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had personally inducted a dreaded gangster with about 50 cases registered against him, into the AAP.
