Chandigarh 30 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Gopal Dutt Joshi, known as the messiah of Chandigarh’s workers and employees, was given a special farewell party today on the occasion of his retirement. The farewell ceremony was organized under the leadership of the U.T. Powerman Union at the Community Centre in Sector 35. Many union leaders and representatives associated with the Federation of Chandigarh Employees and Workers also participated in the event. In his welcome address, U.T. Powerman Union’s Acting President Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu said that Gopal Dutt Joshi is not an ordinary person, but a moving institution in himself. He highlighted that since joining service in 1985, Joshi has spent 40 years fighting for the rights and welfare of workers and employees. Union President Amrik Singh said that during struggles of electricity employees, Joshi fearlessly led nearly two dozen strikes, without caring for government repression or pressure, and stood firmly to protect workers’ interests. His contribution will be written in golden letters in the history of the trade union movement. Former Union Presidents Dhyan Singh and Ram Sarup stated that Joshi is a people’s leader dedicated to public welfare, who always rose above personal interests. Federation’s Acting President Rajinder Katouch and Harkesh Chand said that Joshi’s contribution to the employees of Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation is immense. They said that Joshi has always stood as a shield for workers in difficult times. On this occasion, Arun Kumar Verma, Director of CPDL Company, remarked that trade unions always act as a bridge between employees and management, especially when they are led by noble, honest, and wise leaders like Gopal Dutt Joshi. The company’s HR head, Sandeep Kumar Rai, also appreciated his working style. Employee leaders Vijay Singh, Charanjit Singh Sidhu (President, Punjab Subordinate Services Federation), Harpal Singh (Public Health), Naseeb Singh (Manimajra), Bihari Lal, Gurmeet Singh, and XEN Vijay Kumar Dhiman also addressed the gathering. Poems dedicated to Gopal Dutt Joshi were presented by Vinay Kumar, Resham Singh, and Dhyan Singh, adding an emotional and enthusiastic touch to the event. In his concluding remarks, employee leader Gopal Dutt Joshi thanked all union leaders and guests present, saying that the success of any leader depends on the trust of his colleagues and family. He emphasized that apart from the support of electricity employees, his wife’s contribution has been significant in his journey, and that no public service work can be successful without family support. On this occasion, Madam Rekha Sharma, Toplan, Rajindern, Sohan Singh, Shyam Singh, Tarun Jaiswal, Saroop Singh Rawat, Barinder Singh, Surinder Kumar, Jaswinder Singh (XEN), along with dozens of leaders and representatives of various unions were present.
