Unprecedented surge in footfalls at Crafts Mela on day 3
Sudesh Bhosale creates magic of his golden voice
Chandigarh 30 November ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Sunday, being a holiday, the ongoing 10-day-long Chandigarh National Crafts Mela, a joint venture of the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), and the UT Administration, witnessed a sharp surge in footfalls on third day, as the people turned up in hordes to be a part of the diversity of Indian cultures, crafts and cuisines. In the morning session, music lovers had a fare of fascination folk and tribal dances of various communities, including Shammi of Punjab, Sirmauri Naati (HP), Dhamali of Jammu and Kashmir, Chari-Chakri of Rajasthan, Panthi of Chhattisgarh, and Lavani of Maharashtra, Rajasthan's Bhapang, captivated one and all. In the afternoon session, a string of power-packed performances by folk artistes held sway over the minds of the audience.The prominent performances included, Chhattisgarhi Pandavani, and Sufi and Punjabi folk singing, blending the saga of spirituality, and history. The soulful strains of folk instruments, captivated the music lovers. The evening session offered a glimpse of various cultures and musical wizardry. The performances, which brought alive the Uttar Pradesh's famous Barsana Holi, Maharashtra's Songi Mask, Tripura's Hojgiri, and West Bengal's Natua, which wowed the appreciative audience. Some of the ground performances the day were Rajasthan's Kachi Ghori, Punjab's Baajigar-Nachar, and Haryana's Been Jogis and Nagada, which were greatly appreciated by the visiting Mela buffs. What attracted visiting guests the most were the stalls selling a range of handmade items of daily use, assiduously crafted by artisans drawn from from various states of the country.They had a range of handicraft items to choose from, including woollen garments - shawls, stols and heavy duty jerseys jackets, designer crockery items, rugs, mats, artificial jewellery and other garments. Foodies had a gala time to relish their choicest food from across the states of the country. Sukhwinder Singh of Chandigarh, a regular visitor to the Mela, said " The annual fair offers a once-a-year opportunity to go far grabbing a variety of handmade products on display at the stalls, which is why the people of the Tricity do not want to miss this opportunity. I appreciate and offer my thanks the host NZCC for giving this apportunity to us" The star of the evening was the iconic Bollywood singer Sudesh Bhosle, who touched the hearts of music lovers with his well-modulated and velvety voice. He enlivened the nippy evening with the immortal musical compositions, like Jumma Chumma De De..., Shawa Shawa..., and Meri Makhana meri sohniye..." He left the audience entranced with some musical hit numbers, like Darde Dil, Darde Jigar..., Mere Mehboob Qayamat Hogi..., and Salaam-e-Ishq Meri Jaan Zara Qubool Kar Lo.... Along with these He sang a number of songs on the audience's requests. Acclaimed folk and Bollywood singer will perform on Monday. The Fair will continue till December 7
