Aged patient with myelodysplastic syndrome treated successfully at Livasa Hospital Khanna
Khanna 22 May ( PDL ) : An 86-year-old male patient with myelodysplastic syndrome which was progressing towards acute myeloid leukemia (AML), along with other serious medical conditions, was treated successfully at Livasa Hospital Khanna recently. The patient was suffering from severe sepsis, shock, pneumonia, acute kidney injury, and other multiple associated complications.
The patient was brought with complaints of fever, abdominal pain, and loose stools for nearly three weeks. Upon detailed evaluation, doctors at Livasa identified severe anemia, critically low platelet count, elevated white blood cell count, and acute kidney injury. Further investigations, including serum protein electrophoresis and peripheral blood smear, indicated significant abnormalities suggestive of a serious hematological disorder.
The patient was critically ill at the time of admission and required immediate intensive care management, said Dr. Nitin Mittal, consultant & associate director–internal medicine, Livasa Hospital Khanna. He was administered blood transfusions and started on broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics to control severe sepsis. Following treatment, the patient showed remarkable clinical improvement with stabilization of vital parameters, recovery from severe infection, and improvement in anemia. He was later discharged in a hemodynamically stable condition for further specialized care.
