Max Hospital Mohali performs complex gallbladder surgery
S.A.S.Nagar 25 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The doctors at Max Hospital, Mohali, successfully performed a rare and complicated gallbladder surgery on a 42-year-old man from Ambala, who had been suffering from severe abdominal pain along with a rare condition affecting the blood supply to his liver.
Paras Dhiman, was diagnosed with gallstones and a gallbladder infection 3 months ago, along with a rare condition called Portal Cavernoma, where the main vein supplying blood to the liver gets blocked and is replaced by multiple fragile blood vessels. This made the surgery highly risky, as even minor disturbance could cause severe bleeding.
After a detailed evaluation, a team led by Dr. Manmohan Singh Bedi, Director, Department of General Surgery, Laparoscopic, MAMS & GI Surgery, HPB Surgery & Liver Transplantation, Max Hospital, Mohali, decided to proceed with the surgery using a minimally invasive laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The surgery was performed with extreme precision and care. The team successfully removed the infected gallbladder while carefully navigating the fragile blood vessels around the liver.
Following the surgery, the patient recovered well and was discharged the very next day. He was able to resume his normal routine shortly thereafter, bringing immense relief to both him and his family, who had been searching for a treatment solution for months. Dr. Bedi said, “This was a highly complex case due to the patient’s underlying vascular condition. With detailed planning and precise surgical execution, the surgery was completed successfully, and the patient recovered well.”
