SGPC hands over records to investigation team for fourth time at its Chandigarh sub-office

It is completely false for investigation team to claim in High Court through an affidavit that SGPC is not cooperating : Advocate Dhami

Chandigarh 28 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Regarding the case related to 328 sacred Birs (scriptures) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the records sought from time to time by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Punjab Government have been handed over by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) with complete transparency, and the SGPC is fully cooperating with the SIT in this matter. This was stated today by SGPC Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami while addressing the media after providing copies of the requested documents to the SIT at the SGPC’s Chandigarh sub-office.

Advocate Dhami said that the investigation into this matter concerning Sri Guru Granth Sahib has been conducted under the supervision of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and the cooperation being extended by the SGPC to the government-appointed investigation team is also being done according to the directives of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He said that after the FIR in the case of the 328 sacred Birs was registered on December 7, 2025, the SGPC first received a letter from the investigation team on January 13, 2026. The SGPC handed over the requested records to the investigation team at its Chandigarh sub-office on January 29, 2026. Thereafter, another letter was received on February 17, 2026, seeking information on eight points, which was provided to the investigation team on March 11, 2026. Similarly, on April 3, 2026, the investigation team sent a third letter seeking records related to 18 points, which were handed over on April 27, 2026. Proper acknowledgements were also obtained for all these records. He further stated that today as well, copies of records related to bill books and ledgers sought by the investigation team were handed over to them. The SGPC President said that it is absolutely false for the investigation team to submit an affidavit in High Court claiming that the Sikh body is not cooperating. He added that video records regarding the handing over of the documents are also available with them. If the investigation team continues to make false statements in court, these videos and records will be made public. He also said that the SGPC has provided certified copies of the records to the investigation team, and if ordered by the court, the original records will also be presented in court.

Advocate Dhami stated that the SGPC is fully cooperating in the matter related to the 328 sacred Birs, but it will not cooperate regarding information being sought by the investigation team that is unrelated to this case. He said that with regards to the unrelated information being sought by the SIT, a letter has been written to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and whatever directions are issued by him will be discussed in a meeting of the executive committee before deciding the future course of action. He added that despite the SGPC’s full cooperation, if the investigation team continues to seek irrelevant information unrelated to the case and keeps making false statements in court alleging non-cooperation by the SGPC, they may be compelled to stop cooperating. Present on the occasion were SGPC senior vice president Raghujit Singh Virk, chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan, executive committee members Gurpreet Singh Jhabbar and Diljit Singh Bhinder, members Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal, Paramjit Singh Lakhewal, OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, secretary Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, additional secretary Lakhbir Singh, assistant secretary Gurnam Singh, Harbhajan Singh Vakta, legal advisor Advocate Amanbir Singh Siali, Manager Rajinder Singh Ruby, and others.
